The LocalGovNews.org
Innovation Award Program recognizes the achievements of local organizations,
calls them to public attention, and encourages their replication.
The Awards recognize
and celebrate the ingenuity, resourcefulness, and self-reliance of
local organizations and, most importantly, assists in the sharing
of that expertise and experience.
What is an "innovative"
project or program?
Any project or program that has been successfully implemented in your
organization and that may serve as a model for other organizations
could be considered innovative. Innovations should address a problem
common to local organizations in a new and different way. Innovative
programs can be instituted in any area of your organization.
How to enter:
Entries must be accompanied by a summary sheet that details all pertinent
information, including the following:
- Name of your organization
- Project title
- Name of official completing
form, with title, address, phone number and e-mail address
- Date of program/project
inception
- A list of who was
involved in the project, including local government(s), community
organizations, businesses, local stakeholders, individuals, etc.,
and how you got them involved
- Goals (and if they
have been achieved)
- Strategy
- A brief description
of how your project was implemented and what was achieved
- Results - A brief
explanation of cost savings and/or service quality improvements
- An estimate of the
total project cost, funding structure/cost to participating governments,
and any cost savings
- Information on lessons
you learned from your project, including barriers you encountered,
what you would do differently next time, and how your project might
be useful to other local organizations
- Any other information
that would aid in an overview
- Also include any back-up
materials that would assist our judges in understanding the project
or program
Judging:
LocalGovNews.org sets the criteria. Some of the standards are:
project originality or novelty; adaptability to other local organizations;
cost effectiveness; efficiency or productivity; addressing a common
community issue; and consumer/community satisfaction. The judges,
selected by LocalGovNews.org, have a strong background and
interest in local issues.
What does winning
this award offer local organizations?
This award allows your local organization to recognize an innovative
program or project that has been established successfully in your
community. It gives your organization a chance to praise the hard
work of your employees or citizens who have implemented the program
or project. This allows you to share with other organizations your
unique ideas to solving problems or establishing programs. The winning
organizations will be recognized through articles, publications and
postings on LocalGovNews.org's Website.
